Northcote Gnomes 2023

85s Rugby is one of the fastest and most entertaining forms of the game. Players range in ages from their late teens to their late forties. With every player on the field being under 85kgs, it is probably the most level playing grade in Rugby. (no 120kg Giants to tackle). In this grade, it is Teamwork, Skill, Fitness and Fun that separate the teams.

The Northcote Gnomes have many proud traditions both on and off the field. A Team culture based on Brotherhood, Family, Fun, Inclusion and of course playing great Rugby.

So, if you're leaving school or want to reignite your rugby playing days come along and join the Gnomes. Not only will you join a great team, but you will be part of the greatest club on the Shore “The Mighty Cote”

27th April vs Kumeu

Week three of the season, and the Gnomes were up against old foe Kumeu, playing for the Hudson Meechan memorial trophy.

After what had been a tough couple of weeks in the first two rounds, the team came into the week looking to play as they knew they could - string some phases together, show some control, and lift the defensive effort.

The boys delivered on all three goals, scoring five tries to win the game 25 - 19.

In what was a highly competitive game, both teams continued to attack until the final whistle, forcing some determined defence across the park.

In what was a marked improvement by the forward pack, they laid a great platform for the backs to launch some great running rugby through the distribution of Caleb Utton, Travis Gower and Herewini Moki.

Off the back of this, the Skip, Jimmy Napier, winger Jason Gerbe, openside Campbell a'Beckett, winger Ioane Ioane and 1st V Travis Gower all got across the line.

Thanks must go to Gary, Sam and Billy and the Kumeu boys for what was a great game for two teams that are continuing to build. We look forward to welcoming them to Harvey Wright in round two.

Congratulations to the following players who made their debut for the Gnomes: Herewini Moki, Ioane Ioane, Ashton Falconer and Spencer Phipps.

Thanks to all our supporters who made the trip to Kumeu, we look forward to seeing you back at Harvey Wright this Saturday when we take on Bays.
