1994 tour to USA and Canada

Tour Team Ladies

The year began on a busy note with a Development Squad touring California and Canada. The tour created an early buzz around the club and the positiveness generated spilled over into the domestic season. The touring team brought together a mix of senior and grade players.

Herb Merritt organised the fundraising, lrene Tilby looked after the finances and John Chesney managed the group with Bruce Blackett his assistant.

The team returned from its month-long tour unbeaten, all six matches having been won. The team defeated Old Mission Bay 30-0 in Los Angeles, San Luis 0bispo 34-3 at Santa Barbara, Marin 14-12 at San Francisco, 0regon 43-7 at Portland, Burnaby 23-7 at Vancouver and Langley 38-1 0 at Vancouver.

The team received high accolades on their way home, the Air New Zealand captain declaring this was the best behaved rugby team he had ever carried. The whole squad was rewarded with a visit to the flight deck.
