Five Rounds in and what a Roller Coaster Season we are having. Luckily, we have a young Coaching team, and they have strong hearts and they us sitting 3rd on the table.

After a Bye in the first round, we found ourselves playing a fired-up Massey side in our first game. Fresh off a first round win, the boys did well, with limited preparation to suffer our first loss of the season and hold Massey to a 27-18 score line.
The next game had the boys starting to find their feet and to click as a team taking on North Shore at Harvey Wright and getting a convincing 40 – 07 win. Although not perfect, the improvement from the week before was starting to show and the input and dedication from the new players was becoming evident.
Next on the cards was East Coast Bays. After a hesitate start which ultimately cost us the game. We suffered our second lost going down 19-14. Had the game gone on 5 more minutes, we are sure the result would have been different.
Having learnt from the mistakes of the previous week, the boys came out firing. Taking on a confident, top of the table Kumeu side. The boys put on their performance of the season so far. Coming away with a 34-20 win.
This team is really starting to develop into something special, the commitment and team spirit which is starting to evolve is quite incredible, the style and Rugby skills they possess are second to none. So if you get the chance, get down to the club and watch the 85s.
85s Rugby is one of the fastest and most entertaining forms of the game. Players range in ages from their late teens to their late forties. With every player on the field being under 85kgs, it is probably the most level playing grade in Rugby. (no 120kg Giants to tackle). In this grade, it is Teamwork, Skill, Fitness and Fun that separate the teams.
The Northcote Gnomes have many proud traditions both on and off the field. A Team culture based on Brotherhood, Family, Fun, Inclusion and of course playing great Rugby.
