Bob Brown, the founding father of the club. He set up the inaugural meeting in 1929, thus creating the club that exists today. He was president from 1931 till 1933.

His life was tragically cut short by drowning in March 1934 while attempting to rescue his younger son who had got into difficulties up at Orewa. Life membership was posthumously awarded to his wife as a tribute.
