Chum joined the club in 1932 and was a member of Eddie Taylor's pre-war teams. He continued to play for several seasons after the war. Chum was always involved in the clubs working bees and as a building contractor was in keen demand for his technical knowledge. 

Chum served as a player, coach, team manager, club captain and committeeman.
