1983

The team has had an enjoyable but extremely hard season. Our major difficulty was how to over-come a considerable weight and height disadvantage.

We lost the first competition game by 28-7 to Massey, but the team accepted the challenge and represented the Club with-dedication and pride in the first round of the competition, we lost two games and three in the second round, all except one by narrow margins. Winning the 10-a-side competition was a just reward for a team who has played every game with true sportsmanship and honest toil.

Our forwards played with skill and determination; Michael Brewitt would tackle anyone, no matter what size his opponent was, and his hooking of the ball was superb. He was supported by good props, Steven Cains, Chris Mills and Barry-Shaw; they did their jobs well. Mark Hagen, Craig Cameron and Richard Donnelly locked with determination and made sure we won a fair share of the ball from the lineouts' The loose forwards Rickie Sampson, Issac Driver, Terry Rapson and David Phi}lips were never outplayed and always displayed good rugby skills when called upon.

Craig Scott, Peter Roberts and Terry Rapson handled the half-back position well, Steve Eskrigge at first five-eight played good intelligent rugby, taking the team from defense-to attack with some excellent kicking. Captain, Troy Mihaljevich played with great determination, displaying excellent running, ball handling and kicking skills. His trusty boot saved us on several occasions.

Patrick Coneglin, Richard Massey and CarI Walberg handled the wing position admirably; Patrick using his speed to score some excellent tries, Carl running with determination and Richard improving with every game, showing he has good potential. Rodney Samuels had a good season' firstly at second five-eight, then at full-back, his deceptive running was always a concern to the opposition.

Darren Matthews and Nathan Villars deserve a special mention for their versatility. Darren, on several occasions played prop one half and centre in the second haIf, while Nathan was called upon to play hooker, prop and flanker. Both players handled all positions with confidence and grit.

Congratulations to the team for winning the 10-a-side competition and the Bert Palmer Trophy; also to Troy Mihaljevieh and Steven Eskrigge for making the North Harbour team.

To parents and friends, we have appreciated your help and support throughout the season - thank you.

Finally, it has been a pleasure to coach a team who displayed great sportsmanship-and respect for each other and their opposition. Have a good season in '84.
