The 1983 season for the 12th Grade Maroon team was, in general, a bit disappointing in particular after starting the season with 12 new players and winning the 3 practice games. It was however, fairly obvious when the competition games started that the team was probably out of its depth in Division 1 of this grade and the results did indicate this.
There was always a good attendance at practices and overall good morale existed within the team. It was satisfying to observe that some of the lesser known players developed their rugby skills throughout the season and these players in particular shone through in the later-games. Four players were selected for the Roller Mills trials, three however were unable to participate due to their attendance at college. Glen Palmer was successful in being selected for the Roller Mills team. Congratulations Glen. Eight other players were chosen for the combined club North Harbour team.
In the l0-a-side tournament the team performed very creditably and only missed one game in the last round, thus missing out on the final. An interesting point here was that 15 tries were scored in this tournament, all except one by the backs. This was very pleasing from the coaches point of view.
