J7 Maroon started the year with 4 returning J7 cote players, 7 new rugby players and 2 new coaches. Despite the big novice factor in the team the year has been a huge success capped off by winning the Snow White J7 invitational tournament in July.
The team came together from day one with lots of energy and enthusiasm and have developed some great core rugby skills; pass, catch and run into space.
Rippa rush was a big favourite at practice and was always the last part of our Friday night training sessions.
The team has been fortunate to have a few players capable of brilliant solo tries but what has been most impressive is the great support play when we’re on the attack. All of the boys have learned the value of supporting the ball carrier so they can receive a pass that helps us keep moving toward the line.
On defence, the biggest lesson has been to get back onside and keep the defensive line spread out.
The team has had great support on the side-lines with a vocal bunch of parents who’ve all done a great job in getting the boys to training and games in what’s been a pretty wet winter.
A big thank you to everyone involved with J7 Maroon, you’ve all helped to make this a fantastic year and we hope to see you back for tackle next year!
Cheers, Mark, Stu & Rebecca.
