2015 Champions

The Northcote Premier 2 team achieved North Harbour championship honours for the second time in three years this season. That was the goal set at the beginning of the year under Coaches Doug Tatana (his 3rd title) and assistant Trevor Snookes.

Ably captained by loose forward Andrew Menzies, the team won 14 out of 18 games played, with one drawn and three losses. In the process, the Premier 2 side scored 82 tries with an average tally of almost 33 points per game.

Boasting numerous Premier caps and veteran players amongst them (at least 12 Prem. 2 blazer players of over 40 games), this side epitomises what a team with a sound culture of camaraderie can achieve.

Many of the medal winners had been there two years previously; in fact 21 players out of 47 players who took the paddock this season.

The player of the year honours went to hooker Siona Tauasosi, with number 8 Isaac Isaako a close runner up. Isaako was the most improved forward, whilst winger Andriu Sucu took the most improved back honours.

The backline at times played some scintillating rugby with wingers Ben Smith and Andriu Sucu returning high strike rates of 11 tries each from 10 and 7 games respectively.

With a winning ratio of 70% over the past three years, this is one of the most successful sides in the senior club. Managers Simon Williamson and Glenn Whitley, after seven years at the helm, are eying retirement. Younger successors are being searched for.

The able assistance of physios Terry Crabb and Emma Walker was greatly appreciated throughout the season. So was the sponsorship of Barry Gaylard and Scott Rinkin. The team also thanks Club sponsors Sue Mayhew - Bayleys, Rex Industrial and Recreational Services. Have a great summer - culture!
