The 2016 North Harbour Presidents grade was once again the highlight of the NZRU season, with the Mighty NOBRA’s the most coveted scalp in the competition. We succeeded more often than not and demonstrated that our vast years of experience watching and talking about rugby couldn’t be underestimated.
Our year accumulated in a match against the NZ Parliamentarian team at home on our number one field, where we played for bragging rights over the Rugby World Cup, which was present on the day. It was a great event for Champaign rugby. Best of all, it was great to pull back from retirement some of the old hands to show and prove once and for all that, they aren’t just all brag and still have a little bark left in them.
We partnered with the Junior Boys Touring Team to help them raise money for their tour. Also inviting them to join us in the parliamentarian match and use the day to help raise funds for the tour, which finished with a lively auction. We are proud to have been involved in raising over $9000. (Truth be told, they did all the work, we just provided the atmosphere.)
We are yet to finish our year with our kid's Christmas party and ‘Field of Dreams’ season review still to come but are already looking forward to next year. Perhaps a rematch in Wellington against the Parliamentarians as a pre-match before the big kids in the Hurricanes play.
Finally, thanks to our faithful and much-appreciated sponsors.
