2017

The 2016 Sevens season rolled around and this year Prems coaches Joe Kurukaanga and Brett Bedwell stepped into the breach to assist the team.

The team was ably led by Sevens guru Courtenay McCarthy Henderson and he was ably supported by Raana Peakman.

The team played in 3 tournaments being Glenfield, The North Harbour Champs and The Auckland sevens which is held at the Northcote club. The team had a number of new faces and exposed a number of new players to the game. Last year’s success was going to be difficult to emulate with key playmakers from 2015 Renata Roberts Te Nana and Callum Law no longer available.

The boys played some great games and certainly grew as a team and we were rewarded with Penetana Smith and Tumanawa Tawhai being selected in the North Harbour Sevens team. Peter Hurst was also in the wider training squad. Penetana and Tu were also being selected in a NZ selection who went to France. This was certainly a highlight for both these players.

Northcote 7s player of the year Raana Peakmnan will be hanging up his playing boots to take over in the coaches box and his wealth of Sevens experience will be welcomed by skipper Courtenay for this seasons campaign.
