We had 4 new players to rugby this year, this new group of players showed up with the right attitude and a willingness to learn so quickly adapted. Pleasingly, the core of our team from last year continued to show incremental improvements throughout the year.
This team is about how much we can learn and then demonstrate on a Saturday. The team’s skills at the breakdown continued to improve on last year, and on occasion our kids even utilised the 2 person pick and go with correct binding, a skill that they have been working hard on. Their distribution has improved out of sight; quite often, the backs were able to move the ball all the way out the backline in an attacking move.
With a squad of 17, the kids had the opportunity to play in various positions, learning the different requirements of each position. Most pleasingly was the level of communication that some of the players started to demonstrate, there are some natural leaders starting to develop within this group!
Another sterling effort from Trudy as manager extraordinaire, Grayson’s commitment as co-coach and Wardy’s enthusiasm for the kids’ participation as the referee.
J5 White made some great progress this year, and with the right attitude and continued hard work, the kids should look forward to another enjoyable season of J4 rugby next year.
