2019 North Harbour Premier 2 Plate Champions
2019 was a mixed year for the Reserve team with an unbeaten 1st round making the team top of their section resulting in a game against East Cost Bay (winners of the other section) for the 1st round shield unfortunately it was a 13 – 7 loss.
The second round was difficult with injuries and players unavailable resulting in a 5 win and 5 loss record. Overall the reserves finished 6th with an 8 win 5 loss and 1 draw record, this qualified the team for a home Plate Semi-final against Kumeu.
Wining the plate Semi-final 29-16 after being down 16-6 with fifteen minutes to go was a tough no surrender result that the Reserves have become known for.
With Massey defaulting the other Semi-Final Northcote had a surprise Home Plate Final against Glenfield. The final proved to be the team’s best game of the season with everything that the coach and team had been working all season on coming together for a 60 to nil win.
The Team Point record for the Season was 417 for 253 against a 164 points difference.
During the season the team had 51 players, with Andrew Menzies, Jason Alexander, Josef Foley, and Jacob Suvalko leading the team as Captain.
Notable milestones during the season were the 100th game from Kieran Menzies, Blazer games for Uate Viti and Steve Maynard. The Semi-Final against Kumeu was also the 100th game coaching the team for Trevor Snookers.
End of year prizegiving saw Alex Blackett awarded Best and Fairest, Quentin Austin most improved forward, and Latham Clark most improved back.
Trevor Snookes was also awarded the Tex Tilby a Team sponsor the inaugural Cote Brothers award which recognizes a close friendship that has developed through membership of the club.
The top point scorer for the team in 2019 was Tia Teariki with 68 points. The top try scorers were David Bird and Johan Koorts with 6 tries each.
The 2019 Reserve Team player of the year was Josef Foley who never gave up all season and lead from the front – A true Cote man!
