Winners of Maurice Mutton Shield and Club Captains Cup

Year in Review for the U85s (Gnomes) was one of huge gains and improvements on last season.

Firstly, finishing in the top four after a hard season in 2018 was a great outcome for a young side in a rebuilding phase of new talent and blood.

Immensely proud to lead these young guys along with the Coaches. To mentor and develop them this season to a Top Four spot and extremely excited as to where they can go in 2020. I cannot wait!

The Season was a mixed bag for the Team with results of 7 Wins and 5 Losses. This resulted in the team booking a place in the Semi-Finals in third position.

Round 1: Started with a good win over Shore 23-13 followed by another very good win over Silverdale 26-14 and a surprise loss to ECB by 23-11, and the wheels fell off against Massey the following week and a re-set was needed. This was achieved and taking down Marist by 45-5 and a close encounter with Takapuna 17-18 stage was set and Round 2 beckoned.

A much-improved round followed where the plays and drills seemed to just click. After making the Semi-finals and leapfrogging Takapuna in the process set up for a Semi-Final with Silverdale but unfortunately, the boys were beaten well by a deserving Silverdale side on the day.

Ultimately the U85s finished third in the Competition! What a great result Team!
