2020

The date was Friday 24th July, 5.00 pm under lights at Cote on the No 1 field. Glenn Newman blew the start of the second half of what would turn out to be our first, last and only half of the rugby of the 2020 season where our kids ran independently, with Co-coach Ian nervously pacing the sideline.

Our team were phenomenal, they took control of their structures, calls and game management with ease! Who needs their coach on the field anyway??

This final display was the culmination of unbelievably hard work and dedication from our group, not just the players whose effort and attitude towards training, teamwork, respect and sportsmanship throughout the season was second to none, but also the parents and supporters who allowed the team the freedom to create our dynamic.

Whilst COVID-19 hampered our efforts early on, we still managed a pre-season where the foundations were set. Over time, individually and collectively we built on these foundations to allow the kids to play an amazing style and level of rugby that I have not seen before in a J6 team.

Our 6 new players fit into our team seamlessly! Brutal defence, cleaning out rucks, hard straight running, stealing the ball at will and distribution from the breakdown, we pinched ourselves as you remember that these are only 6 & 7-year-old kids. 2021 can’t come soon enough, so on behalf of Ian and myself, we sincerely hope that the difficult season that we experienced was still as enjoyable for our wonderful kids as it was for us, and we look forward to welcoming the entire team back early next year.
