2020

Season 2020, one that will go down in history.

Season 2020 started in January with great numbers coming along to preseason. A number of new players joining the core group of Cote men from the year prior. A new coaching duo in Joe Kurukaanga and Mike Noble along with long time manager Gerard “Boz” Boesley, this all led to the team having a good feel to it.

The season got underway and we started well with wins coming against all bar Shore (draw) and a loss to Kumeu. The highlights being a 60 point demolition of Massey and a win against the old foe Takapuna both at home. Unfortunately, Covid put paid to our game against Bays and ultimately our season. We finished the season 2nd on the table.

As a coach, I would like to thank the men for their resilience and focus in the most demanding of seasons, when we started preseason version 3.0 in August everyone fronted and had put in the work. Doing things differently in groups of 10 and based on skills and fitness could have proved hard but our men fronted up, which is a testament to the culture in the squad and a measure of our men.

Having 9 Cote players named in the M10 squad was a highlight and these men have gone on to play a big part in this team. Congratulations, we are proud you represent us.

Another highlight was Boz managing his 150th game at Northcote and this man epitomises everything good about us and our culture and as you head into retirement Boz, we salute you. Thanks also to the rest of the management team in Glenn Whitley, Jaden “JPupp” Burrell, our great physio’s Josh and Simon and to Mike Noble for jumping onboard in the coaches seat and adding a huge amount of value to this team.

Thanks to the Cote faithful who turned out each week to support us and this meant a huge amount to the team, in what has been a very different season. Our sponsors are always well appreciated by the team and we thank you for your continued support.

We now look forward to season 2021 with great excitement.
