Delta raised its sticky hands, cutting short the season of ‘21, however with 12 games played our maroon whānau had the pleasure of watching the progression of every player and the team.
After an unbeaten preseason tournament, like possums in headlights, we kicked off with a sobering start against a drilled Silverdale. But it proved to be a character-building game, and the girls would go on to win against every other team bar one, with stand-out individual and team performances, a progressed sense of competitiveness, but above all, having fun.
Played 12, won 9.
149 tries for, 80 against.
For many of the girls (and the coach), it was their first season of Rip vs Rippa, requiring the development of new skills and it was great to see this progress. A highlight is those who took it upon themselves to practice at home with mum or dad. Not having a personal coaching pedigree, we kept it simple with a focus on rips, passing skills and space. Half the team cracked 100 rips for the season, one of the girls cracking…300!
Huge thanks to our team management, Paula and Rebecca. Special thanks to Rebecca, our team CEO and CFO. Amazing data capture and direction. And of course, thanks to Paul and Mark for your coaching support and our supporter extraordinaire, Adam.
I look forward to being involved in the team in ’22 and seeing the older girls progress their skills at the U13 level. Be great to see everyone back in ’22.
