2022

This season brings an end to 10-a-side rugby for this group of exceptional lads.

Results were certainly mixed, matched by performances at times, but when this team are focused and committed, it makes for exciting spectating. Consistency was sometimes the missing ingredient, but despite the lack of Ws, this team turned up each week for training sessions and game days and proudly pulled on the maroon and gold. Each lad developed their game in one way or another, be it tackling, passing, rucking or kicking they all grew as players, as people and as teammates.

Opposition coaches were quick to praise our guys for their work at the breakdown, where we were competitive all season. Cries of “Octopus” rang out loudly every game. Traditionally slow starters, half-time team talks occasionally required a direct approach. Still, they always ended with stirring motivation and optimism for an improved second half, and the team responded in kind.

Like most teams, consistent player numbers were a challenge at times this year, with illnesses of all kinds having an impact. We were lucky enough to be supported by our friends in other teams, which was a massive help.

Our supporters were once again impeccable. They turned up in all weathers and roared on the team regardless of the scoreline and were often treated to some very enjoyable rugby. Our referee, Russell, was reluctantly excellent. We are once again grateful for the selflessness of our coaches, who give up so much of their time to support our kids and this club. We all appreciate you, Matt and Gareth. We recognise the sacrifices that you make to lead our team, and we thank you for all your hard work and dedication. Enjoy the off-season, and lets all return for more in 2023.
