2022 saw these 10 new rippa players join J8 Gold - The Golden Eagles - and the Northcote family. The team, made up of 2 girls and 8 boys, had a fantastic first season of rippa, and it was great to get a full season in without any COVID interruptions. There were some established friendships in the team, but they have all gelled so well together.
Trainings were short and sharp and focused on the fundamentals of the game. Coach Jason ensured trainings were fun and engaging. The kids were always full of energy and keen to get involved. Luckily, we had a great support team with Matt and Blair, as Jason had to isolate not once but three times.
We had two wins, five ties and five losses during the season, but every game felt like a win as the team really gave it their all. As the season progressed, we saw a huge improvement in the team and their ripping abilities! There were lots of rips, tries, and try-saving rips throughout the season. The final game of the year saw the players having to fill in for our opposition, who didn’t have enough players. They showed great sportsmanship, and no one complained about putting on another jersey.
There were several highlights for the team, including the Friday night games under the lights and, of course, our final training of the season where the kids all came dressed as Super Heros! Lots of happy and positive memories were made, and I’m sure we’ll be seeing these players return next year.
Thanks to all the J8 Gold players and their families for making it a successful season. Can’t wait to do it all again next year!
Go the Cote.
