Where did the season go? 2023 has been a blast for U11 Gold.

A solid core for 2022’s group was joined by new and very eager first-time Cote Girls. From the outset, the energy and enthusiasm was evident. Trainings were full of hype and energy, and the girls did their utmost to translate this energy on game day.

The competition was tough, without doubt, and whilst there were a few “lesson-learning” days, the girls gave 100% each week and fought hard. There were some tight tussles and the girls continued to develop their skills and team cohesion throughout the year.

Previous U11 veterans Harlo, Kendall and Shannon continued where they left off in 2022 with great running and game management. Cailin built on her ripping strength and was a standout on defence. Georgia was the big improver in just her 2nd year of code, and Amaia and Blake continued to gain in confidence and ability. The squad’s “newbies” made an impression from the start. Casey picked the game up immediately, and it didn’t take long for Riley and Sadie to realise that running straight was the way to go. Despite limited game time, Leilani made the most of her opportunities.

A big thanks to coaches Matt and Karen and tireless manager Sheridan for their commitment, teaching and sideline stat collection. A massive thanks to John for stepping up at training, and also to all the parents for making sure the girls were at trainings and games on time.

The girls have built such a great rapport this year and will no doubt be looking forward to 2024 already, with “Spread Out” ringing in their ears over the summer.
