A great opportunity has arisen for a role as the Head of Community Rugby Engagement and Participation.

North Harbour Rugby was formed in 1985 and encompasses a geographical area that includes 12 rugby clubs and 18 secondary schools within the North Harbour region.

The purpose of the Head of Community Rugby Engagement and Participation is;

Accountable for growing and maximising Club, Youth, Junior, Women's, new groups and volunteer engagement and participation for HarbOUR Rugby.

 

To be considered for this role the person must be a leader to drive the Harbour Way in our community.  This must be backed up by strong personal qualities and a management style that connects, grows & potentiates our people. The person must have excellent Rugby acumen.  We would expect the person to have 5 years+ coaching/management experience. The person must also exhibit a passion and desire to connect with our community game.

MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Head of Rugby Engagement and Participation is to lead and manage HarbOUR community engagement and participation strategy and performance.

 

Accountable for growing and maximising Club, Youth, Junior, Women's, new groups and volunteer engagement and participation for HarbOUR Rugby.

better experiences for HarbOUR people) to achieve our vision of being the most community-focused Provincial Union in New Zealand.

Strategic Focus and Leadership

  • Lead and support staff in the Community Division.
  • Lead an integration strategy and program on behalf of Community Rugby that leverages off the resource available in

 

the Performance Division, that provide meaningful value to participants.

Relationship and Stakeholder Management

  • Work cross functionally with all Club and Schools to ensure Harbour Rugby is well respected in the Community.
  • Work closely and collaborate with other partners (commercial and community) regionally and nationally that supports the growth of Rugby in the region.
  • Work closely with Schools and Clubs to build relationships and initiatives that support the engagement and participation of rugby in the region i.e. playing, coaching, volunteering,

administering, etc.

Innovation

  • Research and implement innovative engagement and participation strategies and initiatives that support the growth of rugby (and across all parts of the customer experience) in the region.
  • Focus on delivering key transitional programs that target critical times in the participation cycle to keep participants in rugby, (players, coaches and volunteers), targeting the 'club to school to club' relationship.
  • Investigate and implement innovative methods to attract new participants to rugby i.e. social rugby.
  • Work cross-functionally to develop the associated partnership with other organisations (sporting and otherwise) that can assist

with engagement and participation in community rugby.

Organisation and Administration

  • Preparation of planning and reporting documentation as required;
  • Excellent standards of written and verbal communication;
  • Operate within budget at all times;

Key Challenges

  • Ensure rugby remains relevant to our Harbour community, and more than "just a game"
  • Providing genuine integration opportunities between performance and community- especially in coach development

Requirements

  • 5 + years in a community engagement and development role
  • 5 + years involved in the Rugby environment
  • Leadership
