Jorja Miller Crowned World Sevens Player of the Year

All BlacksMay 7, 2025

Black Ferns Sevens star Jorja Miller was named the HSBC Women's Sevens Player of the Year after the side's end-of-season success in Los Angeles at the weekend.

In making the announcement, World Rugby said Miller, 21, has been a 'true phenomenon' in the Sevens' success.

"A key force behind the Black Ferns Sevens' consistent success, medaling at every leg of the series and cementing their series win in Singapore."

It was Miller's second nomination for the award.

She said, "It's pretty surreal. It's hard accepting an individual aware in a team game, but credit to the girls, we've had an awesome season and I'm already excited for the next one."

Before that, however, she is set to switch to 15s and her involvement in the Women's Rugby World Cup bid.

Michaela Brake and Risi Pouri-Lane joined Miller on the women's dream team of the year.

Argentine powerhouse Luciano Gonzalez was named the men's player of the year, while the men's rookie of the year was Enahemo Artaud of France, and the women's rookie was Nia Toliver of the United States.

Joji Nasova of Fiji and Marcos Moneta of Argentina shared the men's top try scorer award with 26 tries each.

Australian Maddison Levi was the women's top try scorer with 54 tries, completing a hat-trick of annual try-scoring awards to sit third on the all-time try-scoring list with 204 tries, behind Michaela Brake (287) and Portia Woodman-Wickliffe (256).

The lineage continues 🖤
