The Black Ferns have captured the world’s attention with a stirring haka ahead of their 79–14 win over the USA at North Harbour Stadium.
The powerful performance has gone viral on the Black Ferns’ official TikTok account, amassing over 17 million views — making it the most-watched post on the team’s channel.
The haka not only ignited a passionate response online, but also fuelled the Black Ferns to their best performance of the Pacific Four Series, clinching the title on points differential ahead of Canada. Both sides finished the tournament locked on 13 competition points, but New Zealand’s superior +91 differential (compared to Canada’s +50) saw them lift the silverware.
The USA, despite boasting global superstar Ilona Maher - a sevens standout with over 5 million Instagram followers - were outmatched by the home side. Maher, who has graced the covers of People Magazine and Sports Illustrated and was a finalist on Dancing with the Stars, showed her class with stoic defence and strong ball carries throughout the match
With the Pacific Four Series secured, the Black Ferns now turn their attention to two final preparation matches ahead of their Rugby World Cup title defence. They'll face a Black Ferns XV in Whangārei on Saturday 5 July, followed by a Test against Australia in Wellington on Saturday 12 July.
The Rugby World Cup kicks off in England from 22 August to 27 September, where the reigning champions will look to retain their crown.
