Black Ferns Injury Update

All BlacksAugust 26, 2025

The Black Ferns have opened their Rugby World Cup campaign on a high with a commanding 54–8 win over Spain, but attention has quickly turned to the health of three key players ahead of their next Pool C clash.

Loose forward Kaipo Olsen-Baker and outside backs Ayesha Leti-I’iga and Amy du Plessis were all assessed by the Black Ferns medical team overnight following knocks in the tournament opener.

Olsen-Baker has been cleared of a suspected ankle fracture, but will continue to undergo further evaluation on her return-to-play timeline. Leti-I’iga (ankle) and du Plessis (shoulder) are also awaiting additional assessment.

The trio will remain with the squad as the team shifts base to Exeter, where they will face Japan in their second pool match at 1am NZT on Monday.

The Black Ferns showed plenty of attacking intent against Spain, running in eight tries to launch their title defence in style. They will be hoping to carry that momentum into their clash with Japan, while keeping a close eye on the progress of Olsen-Baker, Leti-I’iga and du Plessis through the week.
