Bruce Blackett played for the Frankton Rugby Club in the 50's as  loose forward and prop. He joined the Northcote club in 1957 and became a management committee member in 1960. He was the delegate to the ARU's junior management board, 1971-73, during which time he was heavily involved in fundraising and in helping establish the new headquarters at Birkenhead.

He became club president in 1979 and the North Harbour Rugby union president in 1989-90 and was awarded as a Life member in 1983.
