For girls, aged 10-15, Y7-Y10, who wish try and maybe take up and play rugby in 2025
Come and learn tackle rugby from the girls who play it
The program is for girls wishing to transition from Rip Rugby to Tackle Rugby in 2025.
It is run by the "Girls Rugby Program" players who, a few years back, also went through the same transition and took that first step.
You will have three days surrounded by girls of like mind and skill, all wanting to take that first step towards a whole new experience.
The program is run by the girls in the Girls Rugby Program to raise money to attend the Festival of Rugby Tournament in Portugal in 2025
If you're gonna-be a rugby player, you gotta-look the part.
Each participant will receive a "Girls Rugby Program" training shirt from Paladin Sports Wear.
A rugby ball to take home and practice over the summer.
A V-Shock mouthguard. A real mouthguard to keep that beaming smile.
The program runs Mon, Tues and Wed, Oct 7-9th in the second week of the term 3 holidays at the Northcote Rugby Club.
Monday and Tuesday
The day starts at 9 a.m., but participants can be dropped off as early as 8 a.m.
The program finishes at 2 p.m., and participants can be picked up as late as 3 p.m.
We will provide a mid-morning breakfast along with activities throughout the day.
Wednesday
The day starts at midday, and we have our big event at 5 pm (see the Big Dance below)
Costs
The cost is $160 for the three days, and this includes the training shirt, ball, mouth guard and meals.
Options
Mon and Tue: $15 charge for participants to be picked up between 3 and 5 pm.

The program is targeted at 11-15-year-old girls (Y8-10 at school) who play Rip/Tag/Touch and want to play tackle rugby in 2025.
Can I join if I don't quite fit the target?
No problem.
Just keep in mind who the program is designed for.
What if I already play and want to join and bring my friends along to help them learn and play rugby?
Absolutely, that will be awesome.
The big event is at 5 pm on Wednesday, with the girls playing their first competitive tackle match.
Teams will line up to play a modified game of Rip Rugby, where the rips are replaced with tackles.
Parents, family, dads!... You may have missed that first step, that first try, but don't miss that first tackle.
Under the lights on the number one field, good-looking referees, team physios, coaches, hydration experts, a game announcer, music, and more.
It's gonna be big.
This will be the highlight event of the program, and afterwards, everyone is invited back into the club for an aftermatch, presentation and celebration of North Harbour's next breed of girl rugby players.
There are lots of mats and pads to throw ourselves on and get confident in contact play.
Right from the start, we want to instil great technique habits to set them up for safe involvement in the game.
There are plenty of silly games for entertainment, but they are also there to secretly start developing some rugby smarts.
If the sun is shining, there will also be a 75-foot water slide. True, not that much to do with rugby, but boy, is it fun.
Along the way, we will be regularly posting photos so you can see your girl in action and what we are up to.
Through the course of the three days, we will be preparing the girls for their first 'tackle rugby' match. This is an extended version of Rip Rugby, where we replace the rips with tackling. This works great as an introduction as the girls already know how to play and just have one change to concentrate on.
What if rains? You mean, really comes down. We have the whole club to help us continue developing and entertaining in an indoor setting.
Our mid-morning breakfast is Weetbix, mixed nuts, cranberries, and chocolate drops covered with vanilla yoghurt. We also have fruit and toast with marmite or honey (or both for that 'one' child).
On day three, we will have a mid-afternoon BBQ with sausages and toasted sandwiches.
Participants are more than welcome to bring extra snacks or something to subsidise what we are providing.
Earlier this year, a group of girls from across the North Harbour region came together and formed a team to enter a team into the Rugby Youth Festival, which is held in Lisbon, Portugal.
We are not a rep team but a group of girls who want to learn and play rugby. As part of our fundraising, we are running this holiday program, and all the proceeds will help us to get there and compete.
Women's rugby is growing in participation, skill, and visibility, but there are still gaps in the pathways for girls to start and stay in the sport. Our team is a stepping stone on that path, and we are excited to create another stepping stone for the next generation of girls coming through behind us.
Registrations are open, and we will be looking at 40 participants.
Please be aware that all the program details above are subject to change.

We were you a few years ago and now we are rugby players.
We would love to discuss you supporting our U19 girl's rugby program.
